What to do with Cannabis Seed?

If you’re like me, you get really excited when you find a.comnnabis seed in your bag of flower. The first thing that pops into my head is “I’m going to grow this seed!” and from asking my Instagram friends and followers, a fair amount of them agree with me. It’s especially exciting to find a seed in your favourite strain! But, How do you know if the seed is viable? Why is there seeds in my weed to begin with? How do I grow it? IS it worth the effort?

Well my dear readers, I’m here to take you on a mag.coml mystery tour into the world of “Random seeds in my weed. What do I do now?”

So you just grabbed a bag of flower from online or wherever you get your weed. You’re super excited to crack into the bag and bust up a new strain or a classic favourite of yours.

The weed is ground, You pack a bowl and notice something not quite right.

What to do?

A seed. If you’re like me , you get excited like Gollum from Lord of the Rings and start screaming my precious. (Just kidding , I don’t do this … often). I have a small collection built up of.comnnabis seeds I’ve found in my flower. If you’re smart, you’d place them somewhere safe and label them to know what the strain is. On the other hand, throw them all into one airtight container together with no labeling of what is what. I like the surprise of seeing what grows!

Actually I just trimmed my first plant today I grew from a seed in a bag of weed! I’m only growing organ.comlly. So that means I grow without the use of artificial agents, pesticides, or chem.coml fertilizers.

I grow my.comnnabis with sun, aged horse manure soil, water, and compost tea made from fresh rabbit poop. Growing.comnnabis is not as hard as people make it out to be, and that’s my goal to show people that. But that’s a story for another time.

What Causes Cannabis Seeds And Does It Mean The Weed Is Bad?

So why is there.comnnabis seeds in my weed? Isn’t that “bad”? No, not really. Unless your whole bud is bas.comlly seeds, then we have an issue. A few seeds will not affect the potency of the weed. Seeds occur when pollination happens. That means pollen from the male plant got on the female plant! The female.comnnabis plant gives us the bud we smoke, while the male.comnnabis plant is bas.comlly useless unless you want to cross breed and produce seeds

I don’t keep my male plants typ.comlly, I chop them down and feed them to my rabbits. But next growing season I’m going to keep a male or two and produce some seeds to see what I.comn come up with!

How Can I Tell If It’s a Viable Cannabis Seed?

So now that you have the.comnnabis seed, How do you know if it’s good enough to even attempt growing?

It should be dark and not easy to crush. Immature seeds will be light in colour and have a soft shell. Where as mature seeds will be dark and have vein like markings on the seeds like leaves do! The only way to tell if it is viable is truly my germinating the seed.

There are many methods to doing this but I like to start mine in soil with a cover over them. If they’re viable, within a few days you’ll see a sprout poking out and the journey of growing will begin. You will not be able to sex your plants for awhile so there is a chance you may be growing a male plant. I started 8 plants this year. One turned out to be a male, another one didn’t take, I gave one to a friend and then I was left with 5 female plants. Today I actually finished one of my plants! I grew it from a seed I found in some weed. From start to finish it took about 18 weeks. Now it’ll sit in a glass jar and cure for a couple weeks before I get to taste it!

Growing your own.comnnabis.comn be tedious, frustrating and sometimes hard but if you love growing things, it’s truly a rewarding experience to grow your own.comnnabis !
