How Does Weed Help You Be A Better Parent? By: Lavendersasquatch

How Does Weed Help You Be a Better Parent

Your house is a mess, your child is having their fourth meltdown. As a result you spilled coffee on your only clean shirt and it’s only 10:30am. Before you COMPLETELY lose your mind and scream at your child to please be quiet for 5 seconds. You slip outside for a moment, collect yourself and spark a joint. One or two little puffs and you’re less on edge. Take a deep breath and reflect once the cannabis settles into your soul . Finally you feel more at peace with life. The world seems a little less overwhelming,  You take a few more deep breaths, appreciate the sunshine and breeze.  Return to your parental duties calm, refreshing, and more confident in your parenting abilities and methods. Those children won’t make you crazy, I promise.

How does weed help you relax

Maybe that joint inspired you to get your clean on and tackle the 25 loads of laundry. Or ditch the cleaning and take your kiddo to the park to play. Perhaps you had an early morning and you and your little human need a nap and lay down on the couch and watch a show. Maybe you get your child settled for a solo-nap or quiet movie time. As a result you can slip away for a relaxing bath/shower or a quick yoga sesh with a dash of Instagram creeping.  Whatever it is, you’re more calm, there is less chaos, your clarity is there. Our favourite things to do are go for walks or bake!

Cannabis Helps Postpartum depression

A lot of moms and dads (surprising right) suffer from postpartum depression and anxiety. Adding a baby to your life is a HUGE transition and it can be a lot. I still struggle with anxiety daily and am prescribed a low-dose anxiety medication. Also, I hold a legal cannabis prescription to help my anxiety. I’ve educated myself on what strains I can use to help me and what terpenes benefit me. Cannabis is so vast! It’s honestly something that’s used daily in our household. I use THC and CBD daily, orally, topically, and smoking. We use cannabis topicals to treat cuts, sores, scrapes, and bug bites. My 11 year old puggle Bubba gets pet CBD daily. Furthermore, my mother microdoses with 2.5mg of THC indica capsules to sleep at night.

How weed helps you be a better parent

The stigma behind parenthood and cannabis use can be a barrier. Luckily, in Canada, we are free to use cannabis medically AND recently, recreationally, as of October 17, 2018.

Why is it acceptable for a parent to unwind with a glass of wine or two, but sparking a joint or pipe is taboo? You can be a good parent and use cannabis responsibly.  We need to be open and honest with our children about cannabis use and not give into the propaganda that is being pumped out. Mommy is not a “pothead”, mommy gets shit done with the help of cannabis. cannabis  stay calm, focused, and have an upbeat attitude. I am not a bad parent for using cannabis. I am a responsible adult consuming a plant that saves me from taking pain medication, depression medication, and so on.

Children and Cannabis

My son helps tend to my plants, he knows cannabis is for adult use only, just as alcohol and tobacco products. I’ve never hid it from him. I don’t smoke inside our house, I’m always outside or in my wood shed when I consume cannabis. It is treated as medicine in our household for the most part and when used recreationally, my son is typically in bed or with a sober adult in case anything happens.  Honestly, cannabis is the safer of the three, as there is no confirmed deaths from cannabis consumption, where as tobacco and alcohol take lives daily! My cannabis is kept in my room, edibles are completely out of reach, dried cannabis is in childproof containers , and concentrates are locked up. My child is fed, clothed, loved, and cared for very well.

Cannabis and Parenthood

Cannabis use while being a parent is NOT a bad thing. When used responsibly medically or recreationally or to save to your sanity it can be a great asset to your life. I feel if more parents gave cannabis a chance, their lives would feel a little less overwhelming. Raising tiny humans is hard, we often doubt our abilities as parents. Don’t fret, smoking cannabis WON’T make you a bad parent . If you’re new to cannabis, I highly recommend educating yourself before consuming any type of cannabis. Start small and go slow. When used in a responsible manner, cannabis is a magical plant.  The more open we are about being parents who smoke weed, the easier it’ll be to break the stigma and educate our future generations.
