Bongs vs Joints
Bongs and joints are two of the most dependable and traditional ways to smoke marijuana but how do you choose? Beginners usually feel shy asking informed questions, so we’ll be going over both, in depth to make your choice a little easier. A traditional bong is a water apparatus that filters heavier particles so your cannabis experience will be cleaner and smoother. On the other hand, joints are a bit easier to work with as they can be made and smoked on the go.
We elaborate on bongs and joints below, including a step-by-step guide on how to use each method, the pros and cons, and the top recommended cannabis strains from Weed-deals.ca for both techniques.

Bongs
Cannabis bongs are available in many shapes, sizes, and materials. Some of the most popular being a glass bong, acrylic bong, silicone bong, and porcelain bong. Personally, my favorite type of bong is called a ‘build-a-bong’ and you can buy the base, chambers, and mouth pieces all separately so you can completely customize your marijuana bong to be as big or as small as you like.
The possibilities are endless with build a bong as there are a couple companies that produce pieces that will fit each other. If you ever find yourself in the rare scenario where your bong breaks or is no longer usable. There are a few different kinds of homemade bong you could make from common household objects.
Some of these could be either a waterfall bong or a gravity bong. Both the waterfall bong and gravity bong are made from plastic bottles from sizes ranging from 375ml to 4L. Take caution with both as they can actually get you just as high if not more high than a regular bong.

Lastly, here’s a step by step guide to show you how to make a waterfall bong Guide to making a waterfall bong
How To Use a Bong
Once you have chosen a cannabis bong it’s time to get it ready for use. Follow the steps below to use the bong.
Step 1:
Insert the downstem that came with it into the small hole near the base of the bong then fill the it with enough water so the holes at the end of the downstem are completely covered. These holes are called percolators and it isn’t just downstems that have them.
Bongs can come with one, two, or more ‘perks‘ built in. A bowl or ‘slide’ will sit in the downstem and most bongs will come with both these items. Yes you can purchase more from a glass blower or your local bong shop if you choose to expand your glass collection. Bowls start off fairly cheap but can get pretty pricey depending on how elaborate you want them.
Step 2:
Once your bong is all set up you’re going to want to grind or ‘bust up’ some cannabis and fill your bowl. There are numerous screens to choose from if you want to prevent larger particles from making it to the water in your bong. Glass, brass, or steel as well as some bowls come with them built in.
Step 3: Now it’s time to put the bong to your mouth, light your bowl and inhale.
Bonus tip: add ice to the neck chamber of your bong for the smoothest hit you’ll ever have. This is my favorite way to smoke cannabis in the summer. You can also customize how big of a hoot you want by simply adding more or less cannabis flower, big or small it’s your choice.
Top Recommended Cannabis Strains to Smoke in a Bong
My current favorite marijuana strains to smoke in a bong are from Weed-deals. The first one is an all time classic, Bubba Kush which can be purchased through this link https://www.weed-deals.ca/product/bubba-kush/ for as low as $125 for an ounce of weed. Another strain that I like smoking with my bong is King Louis XIII. It’s pine aroma and light citrus scent is very enjoyable. It can be purchased here https://www.weed-deals.ca/product/king-louis-xiii/ for only $125 for an ounce of weed.
Negatives to Bongs
From personal experience, cost and care are the worst! Cheap bongs can start as low as $20 online but a good one can start around $200. Taking care of a bong can get expensive and time consuming so be prepared to put in the time and effort because nobody likes dirty bong water. Constantly changing the water from your bong and cleaning the build up of resin from the inside will ensure the best tasting product possible from a bong. After all, you want to taste your marijuana don’t you? As for travel they are not very discreet due to size but they are perfect for home use.
Joints
You can buy pre rolled empty cones which come with filters already in them or you can buy a pack of rolling papers. Can’t roll a joint? Have no fear because raw cones are the perfect match for you. All you have to do is load your desired flower in the paper and twist the end. There are tons of rolling paper brands to choose from, just to mention a few there are raw rolling papers, zig zag/zigzag, rizzla, and juicy j rolling papers.
How to Prepare and Use Joints
Follow the steps below to prepare the different types of joints available.
Pre Rolled Empty Cones
Step 1:
To use a cone, all you have to do is fill it with ground up cannabis and twist off the end.
How to roll a Joint
Step 1:
To roll your own, you’re going to want to either get a rolling machine or place your paper with a filter onto your tray or table.
Step 2:
Next, pour some marijuana onto the center of the paper.
Step 3:
Now comes the fun part. Carefully pick up the rolling paper being sure not to spill any contents, and slowly roll the center between your fingers to evenly distribute the cannabis but be careful to not use too much pressure otherwise you could rip the rolling paper.
Step 4:
Gently roll it up to the gum line, the gum line is the thin strip of glue at the end of the paper, you’re going to want to lick that strip lightly then roll it all the way up to the top so the the paper sticks to itself and complete your joint making sure it is sealed.
Step 5:
Optional: If you find that your joint is a little wet or you used a little too much saliva to glue the paper together, don’t worry. This can be fixed easily by using a lighter and putting the flame underneath the joint about (approximately 1-2 inches) . Move the flame back and forth slowly, doing this will allow that flame to dry all moist contents within the paper. Just be sure to put the wet part is at the bottom of the joint. Once completed properly, this will allow the best even burning joint. Once you’re done rolling the joint, you can smoke it immediately or take it with you to enjoy it another time.
Joints can range in size depending on your preference. Anything from a small ‘pinner’ or ‘mosquito leg’ type to a mid ‘cigarette’ size all the way up to your larger joints, ‘fatties’, ‘cannons’ and ‘post’.
They also allow you to taste the full terpene profile more consistently. Smoking on cannabis in joint form is the most classic way of inhaling marijuana as well as the cheapest.
Top Recommended Cannabis Strains to Smoke in a Joint
There are so many strains I enjoy smoking in a joint from Weed-deals. My most recent favorite is Shishkaberry which is one of their most premium hybrid strains that’s perfect for seasoned smokers. Shishkaberry which can be purchased through this link https://www.weed-deals.ca/product/shishkaberry/ for $175 for an ounce of weed. Another cannabis flower I highly recommend to smoke in a joint is Purple Urkle Train Haze. It has a very uplifting high and relaxing body high. Perfect after a long day! It can be purchased here https://www.weed-deals.ca/product/purple-urkle-train-haze/ for only $115 for an ounce of weed.
Negatives to Joints
I personally love how smoking a joint is sociable and a great way to meet new people, but be careful of joints not rolled by you as some people don’t use filters which can lead to inhaling large particles of cannabis or even tar and resin. Other downsides include a hotter ‘harsher’ smoke as it doesn’t have much time to cool off before reaching your lungs. Sometimes if you’re not careful the cherry can fall off and burn clothing, upholstery, or linen. Improperly packed joints have a habit of ‘canoeing‘ or running down one side causing an uneven burn and loss of marijuana which leads me to my last point. Joints take more cannabis than a lot of other methods but will usually result in a longer lasting high.
Remember, there is no right or wrong choice! Buy weed online through Weed-deals to experiment with different marijuana strains and find out what is right for you. Most importantly have fun and enjoy cannabis responsibly.
